auto amputation self amputation or surgery

auto amputation - self amputation or surgery and surgical amputation

auto amputation self amputation or sergery.. what should I choose... I was told that surgery might be faster and less painful now but could leave me with terrible phantom limb pain for the rest of my life. i was told auto amputation usualy takes 4 to 6 months.

when I woke up they started talking about what I need to do to be healthy again. they told me my black fingers and toes were dead and would have to come off and that I basically had frostbite or dry gangrene. first thing they brought in bone surgeons to give me their opinions. they all wanted me to have surgery but not till my fingers and toes finished deciding what was dead and what was alive through a process called demarkation. they said it would take a few months. I was afraid and very sad. I didn't want to lose my fingers.

I asked for another opinion... this guy told me auto amputation was the way to go and sugested I take hyperbaric treatments for a month to keep as much of the fingers and toes as possible. I was estatic and felt the warmth of hope again.

the hyperbaric treatments were exciting. I was placed inside a glass tube and pure oxygen was pumped in to higher atmospheric pressure to further oxygenate my tissues. I could only wear cotton and nothing else not even lotion or perfume. being in pure oxygen is a very flammable situation and thats why I had to be careful. it feels weird when they add the pressure, some of the pain goes away and it gets a little heavier to breath or even move. I excersized my brains out in the chamber because it was supposed to help the healing and oxygenation processes. the techs and wound care specialist in his office were very helpful. my hand and feel were pealing and they helped take care of them. they tried to describe demarkation to me but my fingers and toes acted different than they said they would.

I was terrified of the phantom limb pain and the surgical knife so after a lot of research..and finding very little data I decided to try to go the auto amputation or self amputation rout. with auto amputation your body does everything even disintigrating the bone and kicking off the finger or toe. for me this has been a long rout. I expected to be done by now. at 7 months into the waiting game I had the foot sergery I was told the big toes would need to be surgically removed anyways. at that time I had 7 toes left but most were close to falling off. it has now been a year and I have two fingers left that need to come off and a few bones sticking out. I was suposed to go into hand surgery this month but I had to cancel due to other health problems. I am not sure what to do again. with my feet the surgery just made my toes hurt more and they still havent healed all the way yet. I still cant even wear shoes or walk enough to go grocery shopping without the electric cart. soo embarasing my hands still hurt but not as much as my toes. so I am  afraid to go into surgery... so afraid. I don't want to hurt more or have a long healing period. with auto amputation once they fall off they are basically healed. never a big gaping open wound left behind as with surgery.

my final recomendation if you can wait and handle the pressure from the doctors to go to surgery.. do the auto amputation! its much much better. I know that manny doctors will sugest the surgery.. well a hammer sees a nail I was told. they are well intentioned and just want to help but... their schooling tells them that doccftor action is the way to fix it.
